"Personas: the performed, preserved, witnessed & fragmented" considers that the body cannot be fully contained by representation, nor reduced to a stable visual object. Rather than functioning as portraits of documents, the works in this exhibition hold the body in a state of deferral, where visibility remains partial and never settles into knowledge. What emerges is not an interior subject revealed through form, but a body shaped by the conditions of its appearance–by framing, mediation, and the systems through which images circulate and accrue meaning. The body is diverted from a site of self-expression to a surface upon which projection, interruption, and absence operate. In this context, the persona is not understood as a disguise that conceals an authentic self, but as an interface produced through repetition, perception, and embodied encounters across time. Personas ultimately situates subjectivity within a shifting field of negotiation, where the body remains unresolved, contingent, and continuously re-formed through the act of perceiving and inhabiting space.
